16 Easy Ways to Style Men’s Curls

1. Curly Undercut

If you’re into the short, military haircut look, we suggest wearing a cropped haircut with an undercut. This gives you a shorter look without you having to lop off all of your curls. We like to style loose curls like these with a little extra definition. Take a little bit of Axe Messy Look: Matte Gel and coat individual coils to get the look. It’s both slick and a bit playful at the same time.

2. Defined Curls

If you’ve never done much to work with your curls, you should try our routine for defined curls. Basically with a little change in hair product and a few tweaks in how you dry your hair, and you’ll get the lush looking coils everyone loves. You’ll be surprised how great your curls can look with just a little extra effort.

3. Sculpted Pompadour

For our ’50s fans, you can still create a cool pomp hairstyle with man curls. We suggest following our tutorial for the modern pompadour. But instead of smoothing over your hair with pomade to create your defined look, use it to point-style the tops of your hair. Take a product, like Axe Clean Cut Look: Classic Pomade, in between your fingers and define the tops of your individual curls. You’ll get that structural look to your curls we know you’ll love.

4.Vibrantly-Dyed Curls

Don’t be scared of dying curly hair! It’s totally possible, and you just need to take some precaution ahead of time and learn about maintenance. Because curly hair tends to be on the drier side, you’ll need to use more moisturizing hair products. If bleaching your hair is in your future, we suggest using coconut oil not only to prep your scalp ahead of time, but to soften your curls after as well.

5. Short Curly Crop

For looser curly or wavy hair types, you can wear a shorter crop more easily. The shorter you go, the straighter your hair will look. We suggest wearing your hair a little shorter on the sides, and longer on top to get that tousled look every day!

6. Asymmetrical Curly Cut

An edgy style you can try is this asymmetrical cut. You’ll wear it longer on one side, and shorter on the other. This creates a cool new shape and lets those coils shine.

7. Defined Curly Afro

If you want to add a little more texture to an afro, we’ve got a little trick. To get this defined look, we recommend styling your hair with a hydrating oil. Take a drop or two of Nexxus New York Salon Care Oil Infinite Nourishing Hair Oil between your fingers and apply just to the ends of your curls. You can pick and choose which ends you want to define depending on your style. Go in afterwards with a hair pick to add more body if needed.

8. Half-Up Man Bun

This is the most dapper way to wear a curly man bun. Instead of hiding away all of your hair in a regular man bun, this allows your curls to hang loose while still keeping things pretty comfy and low-key, particularly in the summer. To get this look, follow our tutorial for a half-up man bun for dudes. This is one of our favorite styles because you can wear it to casual and formal events alike.

9. Wet-Look Curls

Wet-looking hair has been a trending style ever since fashion month this winter. We’re big fans of this look on both men and women. To get this style, you’ll need to apply extra hair gel to damp or freshly washed hair. We like to use Bed Head for Men by TIGI Power Play Firm Finish Gel to create this look. If you’ve used enough gel, your hair will still look slick even when it’s set and dry.

10. Center-Parted Natural Curls

Another runway-inspired look is the center part. It’s as easy as it sounds, really: On your already-defined curls, part your hair right down the center with a comb. It allows your curls to fall freely for a big, fluffy, voluminous look.

11. Classic Shag

Natural curls and classic shags go hand in hand. If you want an androgynous style that will transport you to the past (or are just ready for a quirky #tbt), this is a good one to try. The curls help you get more texture in this style, and a fringe provides extra interest.

12. Curly Ponytail

Dudes with longer hair can style men’s curls into a cool ponytail. It’s the best of both worlds for guys who want their hair back like in a man bun, but still want to show off their curls (or want something even lower maintenance). You just need to pull your hair back and loop a hair tie around it. Done!

13. Curly Quiff

This curly quiff is perfect for every possible occasion. It’s the perfect combination of casual but put-together and looks equally great in a tux or tee. Cop this look by using Dove Men+Care Defining Pomade to create a tousled quiff. You can use the pomade to style individual curls, instead of setting them all together in your quiff.

14. Parted Crop

For a subtle change, simply try parting your fringe. This lets you control how much of your face your curly fringe is going to cover. The best part is that it takes no time at all, and if you don’t like it, you can just set your hair back in place, no haircut required.

15. ’90s Murls

We won’t lie: We’re big fans of defined curls. But if the rough-and-tumble style of curls from the ’90s are more your jam, we can always get behind that too, since it’s one of the trendiest eras making a comeback these days. All we suggest is using a hydrating shampoo like Axe Max Hydrate 2-In-1 Shampoo + Conditioner. Then let your hair air dry and do it’s own thing. A diffused center part also doesn’t hurt when really going for the ’90s style.

16. Curly Crop and Full Beard

Lastly, we couldn’t not include a dude with a beard! A full beard is the perfect match for a medium curly crop. Add in a slight side part and we’re totally sold. This style is great for providing a bit of a rougher sex appeal to your entire look. Need more information about how to style men’s curls? Make sure you check out our post about this trend.
